Some History

Atlantic College is built around St. Donat's Castle which dates from 1300, and was built shortly after Edward l's conquest of Wales. It was built on the concentric plan with two circular rings of fortifications, one inside the other. Each circle was made up of a curtain wall, punctuated by towers. Most of the original outer wall is still present. In 1925 the castle was bought by William Randolph Hearst, the American newspaper millionaire. Hearst was the model for the eponymous hero of the classic film Citizen Kane.
